Great Allegheny Passage Bike trail 15 miles from Snyder of BerlinThe Great Allegheny Passage (Gap) Trail connects Pittsburgh, PA and Cumberland, MD with a nearly-level 150-mile biking and hiking trail through the Appalachian Mountains, along winding rivers and shaded valleys. The trail continues to Washington, DC, for a total of 339 scenic miles. Crossing the mountains was a historically treatcherous ordeal. Now folks follow the route for fun and exercise-whether multi-day treks, camping along the way; or shorter rides through the forests and small Trail Towns. The Salisbury Viaduct (above) stretches over a third of a mile, 100 feet above the Casselman River.
